If you want one app for both the calendar and the widget, start with Google Calendar, or with Business Calendar 2 if you want more widget types. If the widget in your calendar app is not enough, keep the app and add a separate widget.

Based on published app information. Features and prices checked on 2026-10-23.

TL;DR

  • Best all-round: Google Calendar.

  • Most widget types: Business Calendar 2 (seven widgets).

  • Widget themes and month widgets: DigiCal.

  • Classic app, one-time upgrades: aCalendar.

  • Best on Samsung Galaxy: Samsung Calendar.

  • Private and open source: Fossify Calendar.

  • Widget add-on for any of them: Super Agenda.

1. Google Calendar — Best all-round

Android · Free · Google Play listing

Google Calendar is the app most people already have. It has month, week, and day views, tasks next to events, shared calendars, and events added from Gmail. The listing says it can show other calendars on your phone side by side, including Exchange. Its two widgets are "Calendar schedule" and "Calendar month view" (Google help page). Since the 2023 redesign both use Dynamic Color and have an add-event button (9to5Google).

Strengths

  • Free, with deep Google account sync.

  • Schedule and month widgets.

  • Dynamic Color theming for the widgets.

Limitations

  • Google's help page describes resizing only. I found no color or transparency options there.

  • Two widget types.

Best for: people in the Google ecosystem. See Super Agenda vs the Google Calendar widget.

2. Business Calendar 2 — Best for the most widget types

Android · Free with ads and in-app purchases · Google Play listing

Business Calendar 2, from Appgenix Software, has month, week, day, and agenda views. It also handles tasks, templates, and voice input. It syncs with Google Calendar, Outlook, Exchange, and CalDAV. The listing names seven widgets (month, week, day, agenda, and more) with widget themes, and says you can adapt each widget. A Wear OS app is included.

The free version contains ads, and the listing talks about a Pro version. I could not confirm from the listing which widget options need Pro.

Strengths

  • Seven widgets.

  • Many sync options.

  • Updated on Google Play on Oct 20, 2026.

Limitations

  • Ads in the free version.

  • A large app, if the widget is what you want.

Best for: people who want a power calendar and several widgets.

3. DigiCal — Best for widget themes

Android · Free with ads and in-app purchases · Google Play listing

DigiCal, from Digibites, has seven views: day, week, agenda, month, text month, list, and year. The listing names six customizable widgets and nine preset themes for list, grid, day, day list, text month, and month widgets. It syncs with Google Calendar, Outlook, and Exchange, and it adds weather and public holiday calendars.

DigiCal+ adds two widgets, more customization options, seven extra widget themes, and removes ads. I could not confirm whether DigiCal+ is a one-time purchase or a subscription.

Strengths

  • Preset widget themes.

  • Month and list widgets.

  • Holiday and weather information.

Limitations

  • Ads in the free version.

  • Some widgets and options need DigiCal+.

  • Last Google Play update: Jun 3, 2026.

Best for: people who like preset themes. See Super Agenda vs DigiCal.

4. aCalendar — Best classic app with one-time upgrades

Android · Free with ads and one-time in-app purchases · Google Play listing

aCalendar, from Tapir Apps in Munich, has day, week, month, and agenda views, plus a year view. The listing says it has eight widgets and uses the native calendar backend of Android and its sync. Extra features come with aCalendar+ or as in-app purchases: more colors, business features, tasks, public holidays, and no ads.

Strengths

  • Eight widgets.

  • Works with the calendars already synced to your phone.

  • Per the listing, the purchases are one-time.

Limitations

  • Ads in the free version.

  • Last Google Play update: Sep 8, 2025.

Best for: people who want a classic app and a one-time upgrade.

5. Samsung Calendar — Best on Samsung Galaxy

Android (Samsung) · No price shown on Google Play · Google Play listing

Samsung Calendar is Samsung's own app. The listing says it shows year, month, week, day, and task views, and weekly weather. It offers several widget types with adjustable transparency. Samsung's widget help page names a Calendar widget for upcoming events and says you change the transparency in "Widget settings".

Strengths

  • Made by Samsung.

  • Adjustable transparency.

  • Adds Google Calendar and other calendars.

Limitations

  • The listing names transparency as the only adjustable look option. I could not confirm others.

  • Menu names differ by One UI version.

Best for: Galaxy owners. See Super Agenda vs the Samsung Calendar widget.

6. Fossify Calendar — Best private and open source

Android · Free, open source (GPL-3.0), no ads · Google Play listing

Fossify Calendar says it has no ads, no tracking, and no intrusive permissions. It has daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and event views, and it syncs with Google Calendar, Outlook, Nextcloud, and Exchange. The listing mentions calendar widgets and themes for the home screen.

Strengths

  • Open source and ad-free.

  • Wide sync support.

  • Updated on Google Play on Oct 10, 2026.

Limitations

  • The listing gives few widget details. I could not confirm the widget types or style options.

Best for: people who put privacy first and need a simple widget.

7. Super Agenda — Best as a widget add-on

Android 8.0+ · Free to download, one-time in-app purchase (Super Agenda Pro) · Google Play listing

Super Agenda is not a calendar app. It is a home screen agenda widget that shows the events of the calendars on your phone, including Google Calendar and any account that syncs to the Android calendar. Use it next to any app above: keep your calendar app for editing, and use Super Agenda for the list on the home screen.

It shows an agenda list with optional day headers and an optional timeline, in one or two columns (today and next). The toolbar has buttons to add an event, refresh, and open the settings. A tap on an event opens it in the calendar app. You can set colors, text sizes, shapes, transparency, and corner radius per part, use built-in designs, and save and share presets. Each widget can have its own calendars and style.

The time settings and calendar choice are free. All style options need Pro, a one-time purchase. No subscription, no account, no ads.

Strengths

  • Deep styling, per part and per widget.

  • A live preview that matches the home screen.

  • Works with whichever calendar app you use.

Limitations

  • No month grid, no tasks, no weather.

  • No calendar of its own: it shows the calendars already on your phone.

  • Style options need Pro.

Best for: people who like their calendar app but not its widget.

  • Business Calendar 2 — Widgets: 7 (month, week, day, agenda, more). Price model: Free with ads, in-app purchases.
