No single calendar widget fits everyone. The right one depends on one question: do you want a list of what is next, or a grid of the month?

Based on published app information. Features and prices checked on 2026-10-23.

TL;DR

  • Best default: Google Calendar. Free, with a schedule widget and a month widget.

  • Best full app with many widgets: Business Calendar 2.

  • Best styled agenda list: Super Agenda (a widget only, not a calendar app).

  • Best widget themes inside a full app: DigiCal.

  • Best for Samsung Galaxy phones: Samsung Calendar.

  • Best free and open source: Todo Agenda.

1. Google Calendar — Best default

Android · Free · Google Play listing

Google Calendar gives you two widgets. "Calendar schedule" shows your tasks and upcoming events. "Calendar month view" shows one month at a time. Both are listed on Google's help page. The Play listing says the app also shows other calendars on your phone, including Exchange.

Since the 2023 redesign, the widgets use Dynamic Color, so the background follows your phone theme (9to5Google). Both widgets also have an add-event button.

Strengths

  • Free, and you may already have it.

  • Two widget types: schedule list and month grid.

  • Dynamic Color theming.

  • Tasks show in the schedule widget.

Limitations

  • Google's help page describes resizing only. It lists no color or transparency options.

  • Only two widget types.

Best for: people who want a working widget with no setup.

2. Business Calendar 2 — Best full app with many widgets

Android · Free with ads and in-app purchases · Google Play listing

Business Calendar 2 is a full calendar app from Appgenix Software. The listing names seven widgets, including month, week, day, and agenda. You pick a widget theme and adapt each widget to your needs. The app syncs through Android calendar sync, CalDAV, and Outlook. It also handles tasks and has a Wear OS app.

The Play listing marks the app as containing ads and offering in-app purchases. It talks about a Pro version, but I could not confirm from the listing which widget options need Pro. Read the in-app purchase screen before you rely on a specific widget option.

Strengths

  • Seven widgets, from agenda to month.

  • Full calendar app with tasks and Wear OS.

  • Updated on Google Play on Oct 20, 2026.

Limitations

  • Ads in the free version.

  • A large app if you only want the widget.

Best for: people who want one app for the calendar and the widgets. See our Business Calendar 2 comparison.

3. Super Agenda — Best styled agenda list

Android 8.0+ · Free to download, one-time in-app purchase (Super Agenda Pro)

Super Agenda is a home screen agenda widget. It is not a calendar app. It shows events from the calendars already on your phone, such as Google Calendar and any account that syncs to the Android calendar. You can show an agenda list with day headers and an optional timeline, one column or two columns (today and next), and a toolbar with the date or a big date.

The styling is the main point. You can set colors, text sizes, shapes, transparency, and the corner radius of each part. You can pick event color markers (bar, circle, or small dot), start from a built-in design, and save and share your own presets. Each widget can have its own calendars and its own style. The app shows a live preview that matches the widget on your home screen. The toolbar has buttons to add an event, refresh, and open the settings.

The time settings and the calendar choice are free. Super Agenda Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks all style options. There is no subscription, no account, and no ads.

Strengths

  • Deep styling per part and per widget.

  • Day and night themes that follow the system dark mode.

  • Live preview that matches the home screen.

  • Hides declined and all-day events on request.

Limitations

  • No month grid view.

  • No tasks and no weather.

  • No calendar of its own: it reads the calendars on your phone.

  • You need Pro for colors, layouts, per-widget styles, presets, and day and night themes.

  • No wallpaper-based dynamic colors.

Best for: people who want a good-looking agenda list and already use another app for the calendar itself. Get it on Google Play.

Your calendar, on your home screen. Super Agenda is a free, very customizable agenda widget for Android. No account, no ads.

4. DigiCal — Best widget themes inside a full app

Android · Free with ads and in-app purchases · Google Play listing

DigiCal is a full calendar app from Digibites with seven views. The listing says it has six customizable widgets and nine preset themes for list, grid, day, day list, text month, and month widgets. It syncs with Google Calendar, Outlook, and Exchange, and it shows a weather forecast.

An upgrade called DigiCal+ adds extra widgets (a month widget and a month calendar widget), more customization options, seven extra widget themes, and removes ads. I could not confirm from DigiCal's own pages whether DigiCal+ is a one-time purchase or a subscription.

Strengths

  • Both list and month-style widgets.

  • Preset widget themes.

  • Weather in the app.

Limitations

  • Ads in the free version.

  • Some widgets and options need DigiCal+.

  • Last Google Play update: Jun 3, 2026.

Best for: people who want month and list widgets from one app. See our DigiCal comparison.

5. Samsung Calendar — Best for Galaxy phones

Android (Samsung) · No price shown on Google Play · Google Play listing

Samsung Calendar is Samsung's own calendar app. The listing says you can choose from several widget types with adjustable transparency. It shows year, month, week, day, and task views, and weekly weather. Samsung's widget help page names a Calendar widget that shows upcoming events. It also says you change the transparency in "Widget settings".

Strengths

  • Made by Samsung.

  • Adjustable transparency.

  • Adds Google Calendar and other calendars.

Limitations

  • The listing names transparency as the only adjustable look option. I could not confirm others.

  • Menu names can differ by One UI version.

Best for: Galaxy owners who want the widget that matches their phone.

6. aCalendar — Best for a long-running app with 8 widgets

Android · Free with ads and one-time in-app purchases · Google Play listing

aCalendar, from Tapir Apps in Munich, lists eight widgets. It uses the calendar backend of Android, so it works with the calendars already synced to your phone. The listing says it is free with ads and some one-time in-app purchases. A paid version, aCalendar+, removes ads and adds more colors, tasks, and holidays.

Strengths

  • Eight widgets.

  • Per the listing, the in-app purchases are one-time.

  • Day, week, month, and agenda views in the app.

Limitations

  • Ads in the free version.

  • Last Google Play update: Sep 8, 2025.

Best for: people who want a classic calendar app with several widgets and a one-time upgrade.

7. Todo Agenda — Best free and open source

Android 7+ · Free, open source, no advertising · Google Play listing

Todo Agenda shows calendar events and task lists as a scrolling list. Each widget has its own settings: layout, colors, filters, calendars, and task lists. You can change the background color and transparency of each part, change the text size, and resize the widget freely. A "Go to Today" button jumps back to now. You can also back up your settings and clone widgets.

Strengths

  • Free, with no advertising.

  • Per-widget settings.

  • Shows tasks next to events.

Limitations

  • Many settings to learn.

  • The list can get long, because it shows tasks as well as events.

Best for: people who want a free list widget with many settings and do not mind a utility look.

8. Event Flow Calendar Widget — Best agenda plus month pair

Android · Free, with some options locked behind an in-app upgrade · Google Play listing

Event Flow has two widgets: an agenda widget with events grouped by day, and a resizable month calendar. You can change background and font colors, the font, and the header. It has preset themes. Weather for up to five days on the agenda widget is a premium feature.

Strengths

  • Agenda and month widgets in one app.

  • Preset themes and exact hex colors.

Limitations

  • Some configuration options are locked in the free version.

  • Last Google Play update: Sep 29, 2025.
