A Work Day Setup: Meetings on Your Android Home Screen

To see your meetings on the home screen, sync your work calendar to the phone, then add an agenda widget that reads the phone calendar. The two settings that matter most are hiding declined events and limiting how many events the widget shows.

This guide gives a setup that fits a normal work day, with the reasons for each choice.

What you need first

A widget does not fetch your work calendar. It reads the calendars that are already on the phone. So check these points before you change any widget setting.

  • Your work calendar must sync to the Android calendar. Google Workspace calendars sync through Google Calendar. Exchange and Outlook calendars show up if the account is added to the phone and its app syncs to the system calendar.

  • Some company accounts may block this on personal phones. If your events do not appear, ask your IT team.

  • Our guide on Outlook, iCloud and Exchange events in an Android widget covers the sync step for each account type.

Super Agenda does not have its own calendar sync, so it follows what the phone calendar holds.

The work day framework

Think of the widget as answering one question: "What is next, and what is after that?" Each setting below supports that question.

  • Only meetings you attend — Setting: Hide declined events. Why: Declined invites add noise..

  • A short list — Setting: Maximum number of events. Why: The list fits the widget without scrolling..

  • Focus on now — Setting: Past events off. Why: Meetings that ended do not take space..

  • A clear view of the day — Setting: Timeline, optional. Why: You see gaps between meetings..

  • Fewer distractions — Setting: Hide all-day events, optional. Why: Reminders, birthdays, and holidays move out of the way..

  • Planning ahead — Setting: Days ahead: 2 to 3. Why: You see tomorrow's first meeting..

The time settings and the calendar choice are free. You can read more in the guide on hiding declined and all-day events.

Pick one layout for the day

Two layouts work well at work.

  • Agenda list with day headers. You see "Today" and "Tomorrow" as headings. This is good when you plan the next morning in the evening.

  • Two columns (today and next). Today is on one side and the next events are on the other. This is good on a large home screen or a wide phone.

Add the optional timeline if your day has long blocks and short calls. It shows the space between them.

Use the toolbar for quick changes

The toolbar has three buttons: add an event, refresh, and open the settings.

  • Add an event when a colleague asks for a call. You do not need to open the calendar app first.

  • Refresh when you just accepted an invite and want to see it now.

  • Settings for a fast change, such as raising the days ahead on a Friday.

Tap an event to open it in your calendar app. There you see all the details that the calendar holds.

The widget refreshes itself when the calendar changes and at midnight. So a meeting that someone moves should update without a manual step.

Keep work and home apart

If you also use a personal calendar, you have two options.

  1. One widget with both calendars. You see the whole day, including the dentist and the school run.

  2. Two widgets. One shows only the work calendar and one shows only the personal calendar. Each widget can have its own calendars and its own style.

A common split is to put the work widget on the main home screen page and the personal widget on the second page. The guide on separate work and personal widgets has the steps.

Style it so you can read it fast

Styling is not about looks only. It helps you read the list in one second.

  • Use event color markers (bar, circle, or small dot) to tell calendars apart.

  • Set the text size so that the next meeting is easy to read from a short distance.

  • Use the day and night themes. They follow the system dark mode.

All style options (colors, layouts, per-widget styles, presets, and day and night themes) need Super Agenda Pro. This is a one-time in-app purchase with no subscription.

Limits to know

  • There is no month grid. A widget list shows what is next, not the whole month.

  • There are no tasks or to-dos. Only calendar events show.

  • The widget shows what the calendar holds. It does not accept or decline invites. Use your calendar app for that.

If you plan by month, use a calendar app next to the widget.

What this means for you

Use this checklist on Monday morning.

  1. Check that the work calendar shows in your phone calendar app.

  2. Add the widget to the home screen and choose the work calendar.

  3. Turn on hide declined events.

  4. Set the maximum number of events so the list fits.

  5. Set days ahead to 2 or 3.

  6. If you use a personal calendar, add a second widget with its own style.
