To see a shared family calendar on your home screen, first make sure the calendar syncs to your phone in Google Calendar. Then add an agenda widget and choose that calendar in its settings.
Steps and menu names below come from Google's help pages, checked on 2026-10-23. Menu names can vary by phone and app version.
Use the Family calendar from your Google family group
When you create a family group on Google, a calendar called "Family" is created for it. Family members find it in Google Calendar on any device where they are signed in. Google describes this on its family calendar help page.
Create or join the family group. Follow Google's steps for a family group. The "Family" calendar appears after the group exists.
Open Google Calendar. Use the app on your phone.
Add an event. Tap Create at the bottom right, then Event.
Pick the calendar. Tap the calendar name in the event, and choose your family calendar.
Save. Add a title and details, then tap Save.
Anyone in the family can change events on this calendar. If a person leaves the family group, they lose access to it.

Or share a calendar you already own
If your partner or relatives are not in a family group, share a calendar with them instead. Google lists these steps for an Android phone.
Open the settings. In Google Calendar, tap Menu, then Settings.
Select the calendar. Tap the calendar you want to share.
Add people. Under "Shared with", tap "Add people or groups".
Choose names. Search for and pick people or groups.
Save. Tap Save. To stop sharing with someone, tap Remove next to their name.
On a computer, the path is My calendars, then More, then "Settings and sharing", then "Shared with". There you also choose a permission level for each person. Google says the person gets an email, and they must click the link in it to add your calendar.
See only free/busy (hide details) — What the person can do: See when you are busy, without event names.
See event details — What the person can do: See all event details.
Make changes (see private events as free/busy) — What the person can do: Edit events that are not private.
Make changes and see event details — What the person can do: Edit events and see who the calendar is shared with.
Make changes and manage sharing — What the person can do: Full control, including sharing with others.
Labels can differ on your screen. For a family calendar that everyone adds to, choose one of the "make changes" levels.
Sync the shared calendar to your phone
A home screen widget reads the calendars that are on your phone. So the family calendar must be on and syncing in the Google Calendar app. Google gives these steps for Android.
Make it visible. In Google Calendar, tap Menu. Tick the box next to the family calendar.
Check account sync. Open the phone's Settings, tap Passwords, passkeys & accounts, and choose your Google Account. Tap Account sync and make sure Calendar is on. On some phones, the path starts with About phone, then Google Account.
Check the calendar's Sync switch. In Google Calendar, tap Menu, then Settings. Select the family calendar (tap Show more if you do not see it). Make sure Sync is on.
Refresh. Tap Menu, then Refresh.
Some of these steps need Android 9.0 or later, and menu names vary by phone maker.
Show the calendar in Super Agenda
Super Agenda shows the events of the calendars on your phone, so the family calendar appears once it syncs. It has no calendar sync of its own.
Add the widget. Add Super Agenda to your home screen. The steps depend on your phone, and our guide on adding a calendar widget covers them.
Open the settings. The app has a live preview that matches the widget on the home screen.
Choose the calendars. Pick the family calendar, and any other calendar you want in the same list. The calendar choice is free. See how to show multiple calendars in one widget.
Set the time range. Choose how many days ahead to show. The time settings are free too.
Check the result. Compare the preview with your home screen.
For a separate family widget, add a second widget. Each widget can have its own calendars and style. Styling needs Super Agenda Pro, a one-time purchase.
FAQ
Why is the family calendar missing on my phone?
Check that its box is ticked in the Google Calendar menu and that Sync is on. Then check Account sync in the phone settings.
Does the widget show the calendar of a family member who uses another app?
It shows a calendar only if that calendar is on your phone. Calendars from Google, and from other accounts that sync to the Android calendar, show up. There is no calendar sync in the widget itself.
Can I change family events from the widget?
You can add an event with the toolbar button, and tap an event to open it in the calendar app. Edit it there. See adding an event from the home screen.
The widget does not show a new event. What do I do?
Tap the refresh button on the widget toolbar. The widget also refreshes when the calendar changes and at midnight. If the event is still missing, run the sync steps above.
